Day 6 – Fort Lauderdale - Docking

Coming into Fort Lauderdale in the dark was a magical experience.  It has now overtaken Miami as the world’s busiest cruise port, both in terms of the number of vessels passing through in any one year as well as the number of passengers.

Now that there are ships such as Oasis and Allure of the Seas which each take around 6000 passengers, they have had days when 50,000 people pass in and out of the port.

We were just about last in today.  It was approaching 7am (it doesn’t get light early round these parts) and already in port – can you identify each of them? – were Celebrity Constellation – again, Oasis of the Seas (second largest cruise ship in the world – apparently Allure is 10” longer), Carnival Conquest and Holland America’s Westerdam (not visible on this set, though as it was on the other side of us and I was in my dressing gown and unable to get to the other side of the ship!)
